They Don't Even Realize They Are Losing

I laughed a bit last week when anti-gun democrat Deb Lavender of Missouri introduced an amendment opening the state capitol to concealed carry for members of the public. Of course, she did so in an attempt to prove a point, and was bitten by her own arrogance. But my irony meter pegged again this week with the news about the $20 bill.

Democrat Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew announced that the portrait of Andrew Jackson would be removed in a redesign of the $20 bill, and replaced with an image of abolitionist Harriet Tubman. In the attempt to cover their own party's history, the left has actually managed to promote freedom and guns. Andrew Jackson was a slave owner, championed the massacre of native Americans, and was the first Democrat president of the United States. It's not surprising that the whitewashers of history wanted him gone.

Harriet Tubman was everything the progressives hate about freedom loving Americans. She is credited with saying, "There was one of two things I had a right to: liberty or death; if I could not have one, I would have the other." And she was not opposed to backing up her freedom with a gun, in violation of the law.
Tubman carried an old percussion pistol for protection against slave-catchers and their hound dogs. This violated an 1806 Maryland statute, which forbade “any negro or mulatto within this state to keep any dog, bitch or gun.”

The pistol was also a threat against any faint-hearted fugitive who wished to turn back. As Tubman knew, any slave who returned would be tortured into revealing everything about the remaining fugitives, which would result in the whole group being captured. Pointing her gun at one escapee, who was exhausted and hungry after a day of hiding in a swamp, she told him, “Move or die.” She delivered him and the others to freedom soon after.
Tubman was also a religious woman, gaining inspiration from biblical accounts of fleeing slaves in the Old Testament. She is even recognized in calendars of saints of the Episcopal Church and of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Gun owner, freedom fighter, religious; Harriet Tubman would be unwelcome in the democrat party if she were alive today. The irony is rich.

Vegan "Cheese"

"Real vegan cheese." Using those three words together make as much sense as using "Obama" and "transparency" in the same sentence. According to an Indiegogo project fund raising page,
Real Vegan Cheese is a not a cheese substitute! It all begins with regular old baker's yeast. Through synthetic biology, we engineer our yeast to become milk-protein factories, churning out real milk proteins (known as caseins). These milk proteins are then combined with water, vegan sugar and oil to make a kind of milk which is ultimately converted into Real Vegan Cheese using the age-old cheese-making process.
This seems like word games to me. By definition, cheese is "the curd of milk separated from the whey and prepared in many ways as a food." The key word here is milk. The milk comes from mammals, and therefore can't be vegan. A "synthetic" process is used to produce this "real" milk. If it was indeed real milk, it certainly would not qualify as vegan. If it's not real milk, then it can't be cheese. Simple logic.

In my experience, vegans also eschew synthetic and artificially altered foods. Apparently the group behind vegan "cheese" has found a weakness in that vegan resolve. Whatever you want to call this lab-produced product, "real cheese" hardly seems accurate. What's next? Real vegan prime rib?

Beer Delivery Drones Grounded

Lakemaid Beer thought they had a great promotional gimmick to promote their brewery. They'd use drones to fly beer out to ice fishermen on a Minnesota lake. Unfortunately the government has nixed the idea, according to this ABC report:
An ingenious new drone beer delivery service proposed by a Minnesota Micro Brewery to rush beer to thirsty ice fishermen across frozen lakes has had its wings clipped by the feds.
Less than a week after the company posted a buzzy promotional YouTube video chronicling the first test flights across mid-sized lakes, the Federal Aviation Administration called Lakemaid Beer to immediately pull the unmanned beer from the skies.
"As much as they thought it was a funny idea, it was a violation of all sorts of codes," Lakemaid Beer Company President Jack Supple told ABC News, adding that he's determined to keep pushing to get his idea off the ground.

The FAA cites the dangers of flying drones over "dense urban locations" as a cause for concern. According to officials the use of drones for commercial reasons is a "serious matter."

The irony runs deep here.

Coexist, The Irony

The car hijacked by Muslim terrorists in Boston sported a COEXIST bumper sticker.
