World Beer Festival, and “The Art of Beer”, Returns to Richmond
One of the premier beer events in the country offering a unique opportunity to learn about and enjoy beer

April 18, 2011 (Richmond, Va.) – Richmond will welcome its 2nd World Beer Festival Saturday, June 18, 2011 on Brown's Island. Produced by All About Beer Magazine, the World Beer Festival is a celebration of the world beer culture, offering attendees a sampling of hundreds of beers from more than 100 domestic and international breweries. Festival goers also enjoy educational sessions by industry experts, food from a variety of local restaurants, plus live entertainment by local musicians. For the second year, the festival will be presented by local Richmond charity; FETCH a Cure.

“Richmond embraced the World Beer Festival in 2010 and we're excited to return, where consumers, wholesalers, retailers, and suppliers all come together.” said Daniel Bradford, Publisher of All About Beer Magazine. “Plus this year, we will be showcasing our expanded concept of beer as an art, with more displays and in-depth presentations, that explain further why beer is such an exciting, interesting beverage and socializer.”

Last year Brown's Island welcomed the inaugural Richmond festival and the enthusiasm and excitement was prevalent as attendees sampled from the sea of brewers' stations. Generally, the World Beer Festivals average an increase of 25% per year, but this year the Columbia festival grew by almost 40%, evidence of the growing interest in beer and the strong following of the festival.

“The craft beer industry including microbreweries is exploding because people are discovering the amazing tastes and variety in beer,” said Bradford. “Our event exposes people to a huge range of beers including imports combined with some experiential learning on brewing and food pairing. We raise our attendees appreciation of beer to an epicurean level.”

All About Beer Magazine has produced World Beer Festivals for sixteen years. It is recognized as one of the premier beer events in the country, with endorsements from Forbes.com, USA Today, and Wired. Each year the World Beer Festival is held in Raleigh and Durham, NC, where it sells out regularly. Three years ago Columbia, SC was added to its roster of cities, and 2010 was Richmond’s first

“This festival has proven to be a much added bonus to the Richmond festival season and a true education of different beers from around the world,” said Joanne Silverman, director of FETCH a Cure. “FETCH a Cure is excited to partner with All About Beer Magazine for a second year. Last year was a tremendous success for our organization in both educating the public on pets cancers as well as general pet care.”

The festival offers two four-hour sessions, from noon to 4 p.m., and from 6 to 10 p.m. General admission to a single session is $40 in advance, $50 day of the event, which includes beer samples, music by local bands, educational sessions by industry experts, and a festival tasting glass. VIP tickets are also available for an additional $35. VIP benefits include admission to the VIP lounge, samples of extra special beers, private restrooms and free catered food.

“A magnificent beer event in a breathtaking setting,” said Matthew Simmons, president, Capital Ale House Richmond. “The World Beer Festival on the banks of the James River is another must in the burgeoning Richmond beer scene”.

Tickets for the World Beer Festival will go on sale on May 9 at www.allaboutbeer.com. Subscribers to All About Beer Magazine have the priviledge to purchase tickets on May 5, prior to the general public.
