Rights Exercised

I voted today. Since my presence will be required in some extended meetings on November 7, and not voting is simply not an option for me, I opted to vote early at our county elections office. I was somewhat surprised to find a steady line of folks doing the same.

My usual polling place is in a school. As such I must give up my right to "keep and bear arms" in order to exercise my voting rights. I always find it ironic that my Conceal Handgun Permit is a valid ID to vote, but my concealed handgun is not permitted in the polling place. Not so this year.

Tomorrow Could Get Interesting

The peaceful transition of power is one of the cherished hallmarks of this great country. But there are those walking among us who don't believe in such a freedom and resort to third-world tactics. Anarchists and other thugs are planning massive violence during the inauguration. The left has been showing its violent nature all through the election process, and their depravity may come to a head on Friday. We should pray they prove to be all talk and no action. Security will be tight around the Capitol and National Mall, but it's probably a good idea to stay alert and prepared wherever you are in the coming days.

I wonder if the mentally ill liberals at the State Department were successfully treated. At least they won't have to show up for work on Friday.

How Much Longer?

I can't help but wonder, how much longer will good people continue to stand by and watch their neighborhoods burn? How much looting and destruction will hard working shopkeepers tolerate? How many more flash mobs will attack innocents before people start fighting back? How much longer will righteous people stand by and watch anarchists violently oppose free elections?

Good men can only be pushed so far...

How Quickly We Forget

It may indeed be too late for the citizens of Europe, their surrender to the invaders has been willful and largely unrepentant. I pray that Christians in my own country will heed the warnings.

Before ANY precincts had reported results, Hillary Clinton was declared the winner on the Democrat's side. They were at least waiting for actual results before reporting on the Republican race.

Back to Civilization

I've often felt this way myself.

From Overheard in DC...

On the Yellow Line coming out of the tunnel and on the bridge toward Virginia: 

Two middle-aged women are talking. 

Woman 1: "Ah, we're finally heading back to civilization."
Woman 2: "Well, we're heading into Virginia."
Woman 1: "Like I said, heading back to civilization."

Naturally, the editors at DCIst took offense, but this map shows the civilization picture quite clearly.

Ted Cruz: "The 2nd Amendment is not for hunting."

Although I sure know who I won't support in the next presidential election, I've not made any decision on where my support will go. I do however, like what Ted Cruz says here.

"When it comes to Constitutional rights, what matters is what the Bill of Rights says, it doesn't matter what might be popular at the moment."

Why Gun Rights Will Survive

When the opponents have this level of intelligence, how can freedom not survive?

It's sad that California Senator Kevin de León (Democrat naturally) probably believes what he's saying. He's so naive that he blindly accepts the stuff the anti-gun groups feed him. They know they lie, he's not smart enough to see through it. The same thing could be said of the people who voted for this fool.

I bet his English teacher is proud too.

It's Not Just "The Economy"

Exit polls indicated that 60 percent of voters say that the economy was the top issue in this presidential election. Sadly that is a very near-sighted and selfish view of the issues. I suspect that by "economy," what they really mean is they want the government to give them more free stuff. Their only concern is how much the government will provide with little effort on their own part. You don't have to look long to find the leeches jumping for joy over "obama phones" or free gas for their cars, or demanding that someone else to give them free contraceptives so they can sleep around and take no responsibility for their actions.

But the real issues that face Americans are those of basic freedoms, the ones granted by our Creator, and reaffirmed by our Constitution. This administration has led efforts to restrict, or even remove, the rights of a free people, including the two most basic rights granted by natural law, the freedom of religion and the right of self defense. The president has stated many times his desire to negate the 2nd Amendment. His supporters deny he has such plans, despite his own words to the contrary. Even before the votes were fully tallied, his comrades were making their plans on multiple fronts. Evidence to the contrary notwithstanding, power-hungry politicians continue to sell a lie that criminals will obey gun laws. They are supported in their motives by the short-sighted, sheepish, ignorant masses.

It's no coincidence that throughout history, those rulers who have disarmed their unwilling subjects typically also worked hard to remove religion from the lives of the people they oppressed. This president's hatred of the Catholic Church and the morals she teaches is well-known. The rights enumerated in the First Amendment, freedom of religion and freedom of speech, are deeply feared and despised by those plotting evil, and must be limited if corrupt powers are to maintain control.

This administration has fought to limit or remove the rights of the honest citizens of this county in order to advance its own selfish power hungry motives, and to reward those who assist in the corruption of the land. At no time in history has the restrictive government as espoused by Obama and comrades ever benefited a population in the long term. This fact was willfully ignored by voters this week in order to selfishly support their own short term "economy." As repeated so many times in the past, a citizenry marches towards slavery and oppression in a naive search for a "greater good."

This quote, found here, sums up quite succinctly the unrestrained attack on freedom that we can expect thanks to the actions of a people who refuse to look beyond their own immediate and selfish desires,

If you are a Christian, an observant Jew, a "conservative," a libertarian, a firearm owner, a veteran, a businessman -- you are all now officially a despised -- if not yet hunted -- minority in your own country. The lawbreakers, Eric Holder, Janet Napolitano, et. al., now define what is "legal" and can no longer be restrained by politics.

The "winners" now gloat over the loss suffered by those of us who opposed them in the campaign. However, what has been lost goes well beyond mere votes in an election. The loss of freedom to come will affect us all. Those now celebrating do not yet realize what they have wrought, that they too have lost. Not yet.

Better Debate Questions

With all the partisan rancor proceeding any election, perhaps we need to look the candidates' views on issues that are more germane to everyday life. In an interesting coincidence, this week I came across two articles, both mentioning Republican presidential hopeful, Rick Santorum, and his views on two subjects we muse over frequently.

First, on beer:

"It's the stouts, the bocks and then the white ales and the wheats,” said Santorum during a stop at the Millstream Brewery in Iowa on Sunday. He also said that he’s a fan of Guinness and will “drink a light beer if it’s really hot."

Not the former senator’s cup of tea: IPAs, which he called “a little too bitter."

 Second, on guns:

Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum has seven guns, spokesman Matt Beynon told The Daily Caller. His favorite, the aide said, is a Kimber 1911 pistol.

I happen to enjoy IPAs, and I'm a SIG SAUER fan, so I differ with the candidate on those specifics. But wouldn't the debates be a lot more stimulating if the topics were bit more compelling?

Why Vote?

When I hear folks say they don't vote it because their vote doesn't count it makes me want to slap my head in frustration, and then theirs too. Take a look at how government changes take place in other parts of the world, through violence, and tell me voting doesn't matter. At least for now, despite the protestations of some useful idiots, we enjoy peaceful change in the United States.

Take a look at the vote counts in two elections last week here in Virginia.

17th District Senate

Spotsylvania County Supervisor

That's 222 votes separating the candidates in the Senate race and a mere 26 votes in the Supervisor race. So go ahead, shirk your responsibility by not voting if you think it doesn't matter. To quote my buddy Damon Brogdon on Facebook, in response to non-voter, "Hmmmm keep thinking that way there sport, because chances are, if that's an example of your logic... we aren't voting for the same people anyway."

The People Have Spoken

Congratulations Bryce and Tim!

It was a very close race, but despite the shady redistricting efforts to reduce the conservative voting block in the 17th District, long-entrenched Edd Houck lost to challenger Bryce Reeves. Veteran democrat party operative Conners was unable to hide behind the false mask of an "independent" and was defeated by newcomer Tim McLaughlin. The voters saw through the campaign FUD, and the outright lies, of both men and elected new leadership.
